How to become a Child Model
There are no guarantees in the modelling industry, and as such modelling should not take precedence over education, but it is a wonderful and lucrative way for your child to save some money for their future, as long as they are happy and comfortable doing it. There is no point forcing a child to model, no matter how ‘perfect’ their look may be for it.
Parents of a child model need to be involved and supportive, but not pushy because a child who naturally enjoys being on camera is a real winner to clients and agencies alike, and is more likely to get rebooked by clients for years to come when compared to children whose parents have made the decision for them against their wishes.
Child modelling ranges from 2 – 12 years and is a hugely popular category covering everything from photoshoots to TV work. There are strict governing rules in place to ensure that child models are not overworked and once signed, an agency would require a license for the child to work legally.
The Model Experience itself is not an agency, but its founder, Matt Bates has over 22 years in the international modelling industry. As such he has strong links to some of the best local and national agencies and is happy to send your childs’ images to them for viewing. In fact he recently sent a portfolio of his images to an agency who signed the model in question that day!
Matt is able to offer great advice to parents such as ways to avoid scam agencies, as well as his professional opinion on any agencies who agree to take your child on to their books. For the children themselves, he can offer invaluable advice and tips on ways to work confidently and calmly in front of the camera.
Keep in mind that modelling is hard work for the child on occasion and so the dedication of the parents to support their child is crucial. PRICES ONLINE ARE FOR MODELS OF AN OLDER AGE….IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO SPEND EVEN A FEW HUNDRED POUNDS ON A CHILD FOLIO. SOME PEOPLE STILL PREFER TO HAVE A FOLIO, MOST AGENCIES WILL ACCEPT A FEW NATURAL SHOTS…THEY THEN MAY RECOMMEND A FEW SHOTS WITH THEIR CHOSEN PHOTOGRAPHER TO GET EXTRA SHOTS DONE. THIS IS TOTALLY NORMAL, AND AS LONG AS YOU ARE WITH THE RIGHT REPUTABLE AGENCY, IS NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT….AND OF COURSE IS TOTALLY OPTIONAL.
ALL IMAGES WILL BE THEN SHOWN TO TOP REPUTABLE AGENCIES, THE MODEL EXPERIENCE CANNOT GUARANTEE WHAT THE AGENCIES WILL SAY!
